NATCHEZ — Through stingy defensive play and a passing attack that resulted in multiple big plays, the Gang Green were able to take down the White Tigers in AYA action Saturday, 14-6.

“We’ve got some excellent players and dads that help coach and that really helps us,” Gang Green coach David Carter said. “The kids work hard, hustle and it pays off out here.”

The Gang Green took control of the game early. On the first play from scrimmage, running back Fred Lane took off on a 68-yard run all the way down to the White Tiger two-yard line. Lane was the game’s leading rusher with 109 yards on eight carries.

A few plays later, Gang Green quarterback Sinnot Bland connected with Coleman Carter from five yards out to give the Gang Green an 8-0 lead after a successful two-point conversion.

“Sinnot and Coleman are a pretty good little team,” Carter said. “He is a solid quarterback, smart kid, and our guy playing receiver has phenomenal hands. They are a good team that will only get better in the future.”

Late in the second quarter, Bland found Carter once again, this time on a 23-yard touchdown strike to push the Gang Green lead to 14-0.

Bland finished the game 5-of-7 for 82 yards and the two touchdowns.

Although they were down, the White Tigers weren’t out.

The White Tigers forced a turnover on downs on Gang Green’s first second half possession and then went to work.

After driving all the way to the Gang Green 13-yard line, quarterback Justin Hawkins rumbled into the end zone to pull the White Tigers back into the game, 14-6.

“We got beat up on the line, but our boys were able to fight back after falling behind early,” White Tigers coach Kirk Graham said. “We got some things cleaned up and thought we had a shot, but they had a good defense that was aggressive.”

The Gang Green took over after the White Tiger touchdown and were able to run out the remaining time on the clock to secure the 14-6 win.
