Cathedral focused on University

NATCHEZ — Fresh off a win against previously undefeated Simpson Academy, the Cathedral Green Wave will step up a classification this week when they take on MAIS AAAA school University Academy.
“Confidence is high and things are good,” Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said. “But I’m still not pleased. Last game was sloppy, unorganized and chaotic at times, so we have a lot of things we need to straighten out.”
After a 12-2 finish last season, University has struggled out of the gates in 2015, and has Rushing scratching his head.
“You look at the film and you’re amazed,” he said. “They have some good looking athletes there and some good skill guys. I’m trying to figure out how they are 0-6. But we are going to have to play well and sound. We are making too many errors, and it is one of those weeks where we are back at the drawing board trying to figure it out.”
Despite having a veteran team, Rushing said last week against Simpson Academy, the Green Wave showed some youth.
“Sometimes we act young on the sideline, having people running on the field when they aren’t supposed to be on the field and not on the field when they are supposed to be. It is too many mental mistakes,” Rushing said. “I’ve got to do a better job of getting us organized.”
With a district matchup against cross-town foe Adams County Christian School looming, Rushing said his team is focusing on this week’s challenge only.
“We have to go one day at a time,” he said. “We’re trying to make sure we don’t look over someone right now. We have to be on top of our game before we play them.”
Cathedral and University Academy are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
