The event serves as the Kansas City Barbecue Society’s sanctioned Louisiana state championship, and competitors go all out to prove who can serve up the best plate of barbecue for a chance to win thousands of dollars and a chance to go to nationals.

Sizzling meat won’t be the only sound in the air, as both days boast a packed musical line-up in the afternoon.

Festival Co-chair Jamie Wiley said vendors, children’s slides, a bungee drop and other activities will be available.

Admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 and younger are free.

The festival lasts from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Barbecue awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
