SCOTLANDVILLE — Wilkinson County challenged Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A school Scotlandville and fell 59-18 Friday night.

In the loss, Wilkinson County head coach Kenneth Brown said the team still struggled securing tackles.

“That’s the biggest issue, but we’ll give it up to Scotlandville, because they had a lot more speed than we saw on film,” Brown said. “We had problems dealing with those shifty backs.”

Though Wilkinson County fell, the passing attack still soared, at least in terms of statistics. Quarterback Desmond Hunter, who leads Mississippi in passing yards according to Max Preps, completed 31-of-45 for 375 yards and two touchdowns.

“He made some mistakes, I think he threw two or three interceptions tonight,” Brown said. “But again, they rushed him good tonight. He could only hang onto the ball for so long. Sometimes, he just had to throw it under a lot of pressure.”

Juan Anthony led the Wildcats in receiving with 11 catches for 189 yards, while Robert Swint recorded seven catches for 100 yards and two scores. Phillip Thompson had an 89-yard kick return for a touchdown in the loss.

Wilkinson County wide receiver Travion Jones did not play in the game because of a shoulder injury.

“We decided to hold him out, and hopefully, he will play next week,” Brown said.
