NATCHEZ — An apparent tree-cutting accident killed a local man Tuesday afternoon while he worked to cut down a tree on Traceway Drive.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said John Randle McClellan, 49, died after a falling tree struck him in the head.

“This is another tragedy,” Lee said. “My heart goes to out to his family, employer and friends.”

McClellan was an employee of Miss-Lou Landscaping Company, Lee said. Lee pronounced McClellan dead at 3:50 p.m. at the scene.

Lee said an autopsy will be performed in accordance with state law.
