WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Correctional Facility recently donated back-to-school supplies to Wilkinson County Elementary School and Wilkinson County High School.
The contribution is the second the Woodville prison has made to the Wilkinson County School District. The facility, which is operated by Management & Training Corporation (MTC), made its first donation in August 2014.
“It is because of organizations like MTC our schools are able to survive and thrive,” WCES Principal Regina Harris-McCoy wrote in a letter to WCCF. She noted the “supplies are being used to help students who may not be able to financially afford to purchase school supplies.”
Deputy Warden Secretary Kandi VanNorman said WCCF looks forward to making the contribution.
“WCCF is part of the local community and this is one way we can help our students,” she said.
The donated items included boxes of mixed binders, art supplies, pencils, glue, paper, notebooks, rulers, scissors, pencil sharpeners, erasers and construction paper.
Harris-McCoy said the donation will help the students at WCES to “soar to excellence.”
