NATCHEZ — With four starters missing and having players who went down in their most recent game, the Adams County Christian School Rebels still managed to record a three-touchdown victory on the road against an MAIS AAA opponent in Bowling Green.

Now, the Rebels (3-0) are nearly back to full strength, and head coach David King said getting some players back is critical heading into a tilt with Wilkinson County Christian Academy (2-1).

“With four starters sitting and having more injured in game, I was glad to get the win against Bowling Green,” King said. “We’ve gotten a little healthier this week. We’ve had a good week of practice and we’ve got some kids back that will hopefully help us have a good showing.”

George Scott, Cole Gatlin and Caden Gillespie are just a few names that King expects to suit back up this week.

“George has a good chance to play and Cole Gatlin, a kid who has really gone under the radar and was really a loss having him out, should play,” King said.

As for WCCA, King said the Rams bring a much improved team to the field this year.

“Coach (Chris) McGraw has done a good job with them this year,” King said. “He is a hard working coach, and I’m impressed with the way they are playing. They are a strong AA football team. Any time you play up a class, and I used to do this a lot, you are going to play that opponent tough. We look for a good football game from WCCA. They are physical and are playing hard.”

King said McGraw’s offensive mind could prove to be a test for the Rebels defense.

“He’s put together some good stuff and has some nice skill players that can hurt you if you aren’t where you are supposed to be,” King said. “We’ve got to do the little things right.”

King said for the Rebels to win, they once again have to protect the football, something they struggled to do against Bowling Green.

“The bottom line is we had two turnovers last week that were crucial and almost had a third,” King said. “We’ve preached we cannot have turnovers. We are a pretty tough team with the football in our hands, but we can’t turn it over. We really harped on that this week, and I think our kids understand.”

The Rebels and Rams are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bobby Marks Stadium.
