Weekend Ticket: Vidalia Library grand re-opening highlights weekend

NATCHEZ — Bird, literary and drama enthusiasts will all find something to love about the last weekend in August.

After a cool weekend last week, this weekend should be mostly sunny with some clouds on Saturday.

Friday is forecast to have a high of 88 with a low of 63. Things should warm up a little on Saturday with a high of 91 and a low of 69.

The weekend is forecast to end with a high of 89 and a low of 69 Sunday.

Bird Watching Group Meeting

Today is the first meeting of the Natchez Bird Watching Group in the Parish Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church.

The new group is open to anyone who is interested in bird watching around Natchez, regardless of experience level or age.

The first meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m., will be mostly organizational. For more information, call 601-304-1007.

Vidalia Library grand re-opening

The Vidalia Library is re-opening its doors to the public today to showcase its new extension.

“It is the reopening of the second level of the Vidalia Library,” said Amanda Taylor, library director for the parish. “It’s been completely redone.”

The public is invited to explore the new area that features meeting areas, new furniture and new technology.

“It’s everything that you would need,” Taylor said.

On the first floor, teenagers will be able to find a new area made especially for them in bright colors.

Louisiana Congressman Ralph Abraham (R) will also be present to help celebrate the reopening.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until noon. The library is located at 408 Texas St., Vidalia.

Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare’s timeless tale of true love gone awry is being retold at Natchez Little Theatre this weekend.

Dwight Williams and Katie Borum play the two young star-crossed lovers, whose families’ hatred is put to rest only by the play’s tragic finale.

The first performance is at 7:30 p.m. today. Additional performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
