The Natchez-Adams County Port is in the Adams County Port Industrial Park. It is located at 2 River Terminal Road, and at mile marker 361.5 AHP on the Mississippi River.
The port is equipped with two liquid transfer docks. The first, the original or old liquid dock, was constructed in 1974 and has undergone rehab at an investment totaling approximately $1,075,000.00.
The second, located on the south half of the North T Dock, is one of the most recent implementations. The Port ships and receives: linerboard, plywood, lumber, standard steel, cotton, bailed wood pulp, frack sand, liquid petroleum products, grain, machinery components, as well as many other types of products. We have ample storage space to hold parts of cargo for storage and distribution
The port is served by Natchez Railroad LLC, major trucking companies and most barge lines.
In the last 15 years, the port has grown from 7 employees to 17 employees. During the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years, the port moved approximately 1.25 million tons of cargo. The 2012 fiscal year’s final operating revenue was $1,732,300 and for 2013 it was $2,143,880.
The Dreyfus Company is installing a $6.2 million grain storage and loading facility at the port. Through the work of our Port DirectorAnthony Hauer, we have received funds from MDOT to assist us in making the necessary repairs to our warehouse and to build a new set of scales for weighing trucks at the entrance to the port. Mr. Hauer became president elect for the next two years of the Inland Rivers Ports and Terminals (IPRT). This covers all river ports and terminals from the Mississippi River to the East Coast.
As stated by our port director, increased port business could only be attributed to a full and steady cargo movement. This has resulted from an active marketing strategy of the port. The port, in 2004, was paying the county approximately $25,000 annually toward its bond debts. It is now paying $100,000 annually for bonds used for construction, and $169,000 twice a year toward the debt on the newly purchased warehouse.
This is a total of $431,000 paid by the port to Adams County to retire the bonds issued for construction at the port. As the port grows in revenue, so does the county. The port will continue to increase its payments to the county as it grows in revenue.
This increase will go toward our indebtedness, and to assist in providing better living conditions for the residents of Adams County.
We have the equipment, adequate storage space, rail service and trucking necessary to meet the needs of any of our clients. The Natchez Port Authority and leaders from the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 3000 mete at the Port of New Orleans on May 13 to discuss ways the two ports could collaborate and combine efforts in the near future.
The port at Natchez has become one of the major income producing business for Adams County. We invite you to come out and visit your port, and check with our port director for information or even to have a tour. You can also find information about your port at natchezport.com.
