NATCHEZ — The Natchez Police Department was called to respond to a family disturbance on Oak Hill Drive Saturday.
On Sunday, NPD Lt. Benjamin Hewitt said the suspect, Samel Washington, 27, of 212 Oak Hill Drive, Natchez, was suspected of using marijuana or synthetic marijuana and was allegedly acting out.
In addition to Natchez police officers, Metro Ambulance arrived on the scene, Hewitt said, and personnel were able to get the suspect to step outside.
Several family members also gathered outside in an attempt to calm him down.
After the suspect left the house, he allegedly kicked the door down and returned.
When officers attempted to arrest him, Hewitt said Washington began struggling and kicking officers. After a warning, an officer tased Washington.
Washington continued to resist arrest, Hewitt said, and, approximately 10 minutes later, was tased again by a different officer after another warning.
Hewitt said Washington continued fighting officers, and allegedly kicked one officer in the face.
Hewitt said the officers were not seriously hurt.
Washington was also pepper sprayed before officers got him in the car. Hewitt said Washington refused medical attention.
Washington was charged with disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and simple assault on a law enforcement officer. Bond was set at $1,190.
