NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield was recently presented with the regional Lawman of the Year award by the Kiwanis.
“This is truly an honor and I am humbled by the recognition,” Mayfield said. “Kiwanis does so much for so many. I hope that I can make a difference in our community and continue to merit respect from good people like our Kiwanis members.”
Mayfield was selected Lawman of the Year by the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District of the Kiwanis Club. Each year, the Kiwanis three-state district honors a lawman who — in the opinion of the nominating club — has exemplified, in an unusual or exceptional way, service above and beyond the call of duty of their regular job. The nominating club was The Kiwanis Club of the Natchez Trace.
In addition to the award, the Kiwanis District Foundation will make a $250 grant to Mayfield’s charity of choice, the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society, in Mayfield’s name.
The main objective of Kiwanis is to make the community a better place to live in by focusing attention on the health, education, and welfare of the people of the community. Clubs serve their areas by contributing financially to worthy causes, and by becoming personally involved in community service projects, using their hearts and hands, not just their wallets.
“Our motto is ‘Kiwanis is a global organization, dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.’ Sheriff Mayfield has been a dedicated public servant, who also lives up to these words, making Natchez and Adams County a better place for us all,” said Robin Person, president of the Kiwanis Club of the Natchez Trace.
