VIDALIA — A Natchez man was arrested in Vidalia amidst charges of assault on a juvenile Thursday.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Vernon Stevens said Javonte Barnes, 23, of 12 W. Woodlawn, Natchez, allegedly assaulted a teenager.

“It was an unprovoked assault on the juvenile,” Stevens said.

Barnes then stole a bicycle and tried to flee across the Natchez-Vidalia Bridge towards Natchez.

Stevens said the Vidalia Police Department caught him on the bridge and took him into custody. He was then transferred to the Concordia Parish Sherriff’s Office.

Barnes was charged with simple criminal damage to property, battery on a juvenile and theft less than $500.
