NATCHEZ — A break-in at The Smokehouse Grill resulted in more than $100 of groceries stolen.
Around noon on Friday, owner Alisha Wilson called the Natchez Police Department to report The Smokehouse Grill at 71 Auburn Ave., had been broken into.
Apparently, someone had forced the door and gone inside, police said.
A collection of meats and sodas and $6 were taken from the store, totaling a value of approximately $120. No damage was done to the store.
Lt. Ben Hewitt was the patrol supervisor at the Natchez Police Department when the call came in.
“The lady was lucky this time,” Hewitt said, referring to the lack of physical damage to the restaurant.
However, Hewitt said any kind of break in and theft, regardless of the value of the items taken, is investigated.
“It doesn’t seem like a lot in value, but actually it is,” to a small business owner, Hewitt said.
The Natchez Police Department took fingerprints at the scene, which are being sent off to a crime lab.
