NATCHEZ — Emergency services responded on Saturday night when a child fell into a fountain near Metcalfe Alley.
Natchez Fire Department Battalion Chief Leyland Rymer said the child was approximately a year and a half old and was still breathing when delivered to the emergency room.
When Engine 1 arrived on the scene, Rymer said the child was in and out of consciousness. The emergency workers decided not to wait for an ambulance, he said.
“They saw immediate need so they transported the child instead of waiting,” Rymer said.
The child was taken to Merit Health Natchez emergency room. Rymer said the child was breathing when they arrived.
No further information about the child’s condition was available.
