Arts Natchez will host an Arts Treasure Auction at 6 p.m. Saturday to benefit the non-profit art gallery.

A number of beautiful home décor items will be available such as paintings, china, crystal and furniture, local artist Barbara Kaiser said.

Kaiser, who will be displaying her paintings, pottery and photographs Saturday, said the auction is like an estate sale.

“You can bid on a piece and you might get something that’s worth a lot of money for just a few dollars,” Kaiser said. “It’s easy to go home with a real treasure without spending a lot of money.”

Habitat for Humanity Workday

St. Mary Basilica will sponsor a workday Saturday to work on a Habitat for Humanity house on 824 Martin Luther King Jr. St. in Natchez from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

“We always need volunteers,” said St. Mary Basilica community services chairperson Charlene Rushing. “Just show up and we will put you to work.”

Habitat for Humanity’s main goal is to build homes for families who meet certain requirements through an application process.

The home on 824 Martin Luther King Jr. St. will house a family of six individuals — a married couple and their four teenage boys.

Rushing said no experience is necessary to work on the house.

Anyone over the age of 16 can participate, Rushing said.

Those who wish to participate can wear comfortable clothing, but gloves are optional.

All tools will be provided.

Rushing is hoping for at least 10 to 15 volunteers Saturday. To volunteer, call 601-431-9127.

Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 100, Natchez, MS. 39120.

Juneteenth Celebration

The town of Ferriday will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration to honor the heritage, culture and lives of African Americans this weekend.

The Juneteenth Celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Haney’s Big House.

African and African American Influenced food, music and dancing will also be present throughout the event.

Live entertainment will be provided during the event with several church choirs performing Saturday morning.

Town of Ferriday tax clerk Laci Darcey said the event will have several children’s activities including bouncing castles, a dunking booth and a petting zoo.

More than $800 worth of door prizes will be available.

“We are trying to give something back to the community,” Darcey said.

Those who have an itch for southern barbecue can enter the cook-off by contacting Town of Ferriday clerk Tamiko Hines at 318-757-3411.

The event is free and open to the public.

Several venders, including Chubby’s Dairy Bar, will be on site to sell food.
