NATCHEZ — For the second year in a row, the Bruce Pickle Memorial Scholarship is helping an Adams County Christian School student head to college.

This year’s recipient was Jordan Arnold, who went to ACCS his whole life and was a member of the basketball, golf and tennis teams.

“It is a big honor,” Arnold said. “I never knew (Bruce), but a lot of people talked to me and told me great things about him. They told me how dedicated he was to the school and how he may not have been the best player on the team, but always gave it all he had.”

Pickle, who died three years ago in a boating accident on Lake St. John, was loved and fondly remembered by the ACCS family.

“Bruce played basketball for ACCS in the late 70s and later coached here,” headmaster David King said. “Bruce was a great coach and a great guy. He loved ACCS, always attended games and kept up with the sporting programs. He was well respected here. We are grateful for that family nad what they’ve done.”

Whest Shirley, who was a close friend of Pickle’s, said being able to come together and award a scholarship in his honor was great.

“It is really nice to come and give back,” Shirley said. “His brother, Ed, wanted to set up this scholarship, and we wanted to recognize a young man every year who exemplified hard work, dedication and was a true ACCS Rebel.”

Arnold said he plans to go to Copiah-Lincoln Community College and study instrumentation and welding.

“This will be a big help,” Arnold said. “Anything, money or a scholarship like this, is a big help.”
