FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man is in jail after allegedly cutting a man over a bottle of vodka.
Lewis Anderson, 38, 309 Florida Ave., was arrested Saturday on a charge of attempted murder by second degree.
Anderson was at his mother’s house when the victim picked him up on 309 Florida Ave. Friday evening and the two went to the store, Ferriday Police Chief Derrick Freeman said.
Freeman said the victim and Anderson drove to Sixth Street in Ferriday where they began to talk and drink.
“The victim got in his vehicle to leave after their conversation when he realized he left his vodka,” Freeman said. “After Lewis declined to hand over the bottle, the two got into a fight. Lewis then pulled out a knife and started cutting the victim, striking him at several different places.”
Freeman said the victim received a three-inch cut on his right arm, a two-inch cut on his left arm and a six-inch cut that came from behind the ear to across the neck.
“If it were a couple of more centimeters deeper, the victim would probably not have been here today,” Freeman said.
The victim is in stable condition and has been released Riverland Medical Center.
Anderson is in custody with no bond set.
“I want to give my deepest sympathies to both families,” he said. “Really and truly it’s sad to say that summertime hasn’t started and people are doing foolish acts like this.”
The victim, Anthony Curry, was also arrested for disturbing the peace by fighting. He was released on a $636 bond.
