Market and theater highlight weekend

NATCHEZ — A musical production, sports activities and a community-wide garage sale will keep Miss-Lou residents busy this weekend.

Thunderstorms are predicted to occur throughout weekend with temperatures remaining in the high 70s and low 80s.

Jefferson Street United Methodist Church will host its annual Community-Wide Market at the church from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Booths located inside and outside the church will be filled with a variety of items such as furniture, handmade jewelry, pottery, canned goods and clothes.

A concession stand will be onsite and will offer grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos.

The Community-Wide Market will also have a photo booth to document the shopping experience.

All proceeds from the Community-Wide Market will be used to help support multiple mission projects at the church.

Jefferson Street United Methodist Church is located on 511 Jefferson St. in downtown Natchez.

Ferriday High School presents “Annie Jr.”

Ferriday High School students will perform the acclaimed “Annie Jr.” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Arcade Theater at 218 Louisiana Ave. in Ferriday.

“Annie Jr.” is a shortened version of “Annie,” which tells the story of a young orphaned girl who seeks out a family but instead finds comfort in billionaire Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, who quickly becomes fascinated with Annie.

Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at Ferriday High School’s main office this week or at the door of the Arcade Theater the night of the show.

The Long Civil War

The Natchez National Historical Park will host a free lecture on “Remembering ‘the Long Civil War,’ 1861-77” by Jim Wiggins.

Wiggins is a history professor at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church on 305 S. Commerce St. in downtown Natchez.

Trinity’s bell will ring at the end of the program, joining thousands of others across the country and marking the end of the war and the beginning of reconstruction.

Natchez National Historical Park also invites area churches, temples, schools and public buildings to ring bells at 2:15 p.m. today for four minutes with each minute symbolizing one year of the war.

Chamber Events

The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce will host two events this weekend.

4 Annual Chamber Golf and Tennis Tournament

The Chamber will host its 22nd annual Chamber Golf and Tennis Tournament with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Friday at Duncan Park.

The event allows chamber members and other interested participants a chance to network and enjoy each other’s company outside the business arena, Stuart Heflin said, who is chairman of the Chamber’s 2015 Golf and Tennis Tournament.

Participants can sign up as an individual or as a team and will have the opportunity to win a 2015 Chevy Equinox or a 2015 Chevy Colorado donated by Great River Chevrolet.

A trophy will be given to the winning team to keep for one year.

Limited space is available for golf teams who wish to participate.

4 Leadership Natchez Kickball Tournament

Leadership Natchez will host the second annual kickball tournament from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Park Baseball Complex.

Limited space is available and the fee is $200.

The event is free and open to the public and will include concession stands with food and drinks.
