NATCHEZ — Ken Beesley’s Mississippi State baseball playing days may be past him, but that doesn’t mean the memories aren’t still a prominent fixture in his mind.
“Everybody talks about Dudy Noble Field, but my junior year was the first year anybody played there,” he said. “I was a member of the first team to play there.”
Now, Beesley will step foot onto that field 50 years later to be recognized for what he and his college teammates accomplished while wearing the maroon and white.
“We won the SEC in 1965 and 1966 so we are having our 50 year reunion,” Beesley said. “They are going to introduce us and say a little something about us before the game.”
Beesley, who was a freshman in 1965, said he is excited about the chance to reunite with some of his old teammates.
“We had a 25-year reunion, but I haven’t been to one since then,” he said. “I know it is going to be a real thrill and enjoyment. My old roommate actually called me and we are going to room together again, and we can really reminisce.”
Beesley said it is nice to know that even though their successes happened quite a while back, that they are still recognized.
“It is nice to know that you’re not forgotten,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
The introduction will take place before Mississippi State’s game against Auburn.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
