Health seminar, flea market highlight weekend

NATCHEZ — A community heath seminar, Shabbat services and a flea market will provide knowledge and fun for Miss-Lou residents this weekend.
Rainfall is possible today with sunny skies returning throughout the weekend.
National Council of Negro Women community health seminar
The National Council of Negro Women has partnered with Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant to notify the community on the prevention, identification and treatment of Mississippi’s key health problems.
Historian of the Natchez section of the National Council of Negro Women Rosetta Fleming said the organization hopes to increase heath awareness and literacy within the community.
The National Council of Negro Women will sponsor a community health seminar for teens 13 and older.
Registration will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, with the seminar taking place from 10 a.m. until noon at Alcorn State University School of Business’ Natchez campus.
Topics will focus on hypertension, diabetes, obesity, teen pregnancy, health resources and the role of community health advocates.
The seminar is free to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Temple B’Nai Shabbat
Rabbi Jeremy Simons, director of Rabbinical Services for The Institute of Southern Jewish Life, based in Jackson, will lead Temple B’Nai Israel in Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. Friday on 213 South Commerce St. in downtown Natchez.
He will then lead in the temple’s Passover observance with a Seder Supper at 6 p.m. Saturday at the temple.
The Seder Supper is open to the public but reservations are required as space is limited to 70 people. The cost is $30 per person.

Vidalia Landing Flea Market
The Vidalia Landing Flea Market will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Vidalia Riverfront.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the amphitheater on the Riverfront.
“We have been rained out lately, but we are anxious to get going again, get venders out and have the community join us,” organizer Paul Brooks said.
Brooks said those who wish to participate could set up a tent and sell a variety of items such as arts and crafts.
The Vidalia Landing Flea Market will also feature food concession stands.

Natchez Little Theatre presents “Little Women” and “Southern Exposure”
Members of the Natchez Little Theatre will provide entertainment for visitors and locals during Spring Pilgrimage every day of the week.
Casts will perform two productions — “Little Women” and “Southern Exposure” — during Spring Pilgrimage.
“Little Women” will be performed 7:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday through April 3, while “Southern Exposure” will be performed 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, today, Saturday and Sunday through April 4.

Friday Forum
The Friday Forum will take place at 8 a.m. Friday at the Natchez Coffee Company on Franklin Street. The topic will focus on the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians with new director Lance Harris.
