NATCHEZ — Some of the best high school basketball talent in the Miss-Lou will share a gym this afternoon as Marcus Martin and Adams County Christian School assistant basketball coach Matthew Freeman host an all-star game at ACCS at 5 p.m.
“I’ve had alumni games and parents games, so I thought, why not give the high school kids an opportunity here in the area,” Martin said.
Martin said he will be pulling talent from multiple Miss-Lou schools including Natchez High, Trinity Episcopal Day School, ACCS, Vidalia, Ferriday, Delta Charter and Wilkinson County to name a few.
“We are going to have two girls teams and then two boys teams play each other,” Martin said. “In the girls game, it will be the private school players against the public school players and in the boys game they will be combined.”
Martin mentioned the likes of Brandon Brooks from ACCS, Tommy McCoy from Wilkinson County, Daryl Jones from Natchez High, Julius Wilson from Vidalia and Dare Rosenthal from Ferriday will all be taking part in the game.
“I’m hoping this will build comradery between the area schools,” Martin said. “For example, Ferriday can’t play against ACCS during the regular season, but with this all-star game, these kids can play. I want it to be competitive and fun.”
Martin said he hopes to continue to do the event for years to come and potentially host it at a different school each year.
Admission to the all-star game is $5 and concessions will be served.
