The conference is expecting more than 670 attendees, who can be seen throughout the city wearing red and white, as members start pouring in today.

Natchez chapter Delta Sigma Theta President Pam Plummer said although most events are private, the conference will host a church service at the Natchez Convention Center at noon on Sunday.

“This is our state cluster,” Plummer said. “We are in our southern region as each region has their own cluster. It’s an annual and exciting event for us.”

Faith Walk

Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia will host a faith walk at 9 a.m. on the Vidalia Riverfront and amphitheater with live music beginning around 10:30 a.m.

Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Organizer Katherine Mize said she wanted to do something for the youth of her church, but after much prayer she saw the bigger picture.

“I felt like it needed to be for the youth of the community as well,” Mize said. “There is so much negativity going on in this world. I thought this would be a great way to help with that problem.”

Mize said the walk is open to the entire Miss-Lou area, and it is free to participate.

Vidalia Landing Flea Market

The first Vidalia Landing Flea Market will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Vidalia Riverfront beginning this Saturday for nine consecutive Saturdays.

“We are trying to figure out something for families to do while they are in town,” organizer Paul Brooks said.

Brooks said those who wish to participate could set up a tent and sale a variety of items such as arts and crafts.

The Vidalia Landing Flea Market will also feature food consession stands and will later include entertainment in the upcoming weeks.

Celebrate St. Joseph at Assumption

Assumption Catholic Church will celebrate St. Joseph’s Day at 11 a.m. Saturday.

St. Joseph’s Day is a Catholic feast day commemorating the life of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and the husband of the Virgin Mary, parishioner Carolyn Verucchi said.

The alter dedication begins at 9:30 a.m. where those in attendance can place their personal items on the altar, along with written personal petitions which will be kept private and burned after the alter is taken apart, where all non-perishable items and donations will be taken to the Stewpot.

A short program on the life of St. Joseph will be at 11 a.m.

Dickie Butler will play live music while a meatless lunch consisting of soup and a sandwich will be served at 12:30 p.m.
