NATCHEZ — Zach Rogel will not coach the Trinity Episcopal Day School Saints in tonight’s varsity basketball game against Franklin Academy.
Rogel didn’t go into detail as to why he wouldn’t, but the first-year coach did deny rumors that Trinity would be forced to forfeit its remaining varsity games, dating back from Friday’s contest against Tallulah Academy, because he coached against Tallulah after being ejected in the previous contest against Centreville Academy. MAIS rules prohibit coaches from participating in the ensuing contest after an ejection.
“I’ve heard the rumors too, and that is not the case,” Rogel said. “We are going to keep it internal.”
Rogel said he was unaware that he would be disallowed to coach against Tallulah Academy. Attempts to reach members of the MAIS were unsuccessful Wednesday.
Trinity is currently 9-7 this season.
