Weekend Ticket: Storytelling, Soup-er Bowl headline weekend

NATCHEZ — Grand storytelling, a Super Bowl fundraiser and a night at the library will provide entertainment for Miss-Lou residents this weekend.
Sunny and pleasant skies are expected until Sunday, which is expected to have a 90 percent chance of rain.
Eleventh Moon Storytelling
The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians will celebrate the Eleventh Moon Storytelling in the museum auditorium from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Many of these stories shared between Africans and Native Americans are considered universal, with only the adaptation of creature names, historian Becky Martin Anderson said.
The event will feature regional storytellers such as Sam Jones, Marianne Raley, Joan McLemore, Susan Bonette, Kay McNeil, Morgan Mizell, Dwight Williams, Derek Braswell, Layne Taylor and David Higgs, as well as students from the Copiah-Lincoln Community Collage and Natchez Little Theatre.
Admission is free and ages 7 to adults are invited. Light refreshments will be served.

Soup-er Bowl Cook-Off
Operation GRITS for Soldiers and Home With Heroes Foundation Inc. are hosting the first Soup-er Bowl Cook-Off from 11 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center.
The cook-off will be a joint venture between Vidalia’s GRITS program and Natchez’s Home With Heroes program.
During the cook-off, participating teams will be able to decorate their booth in a patriotic or Super Bowl theme.
Also during the cook-off, a raffle drawing will take place for a squirrel hunt and two patriotic statues. Several activities for children will also be organized as well.
Admission is $5 for adults — $3 for children 12 to 8 years old — and free for children 7 and under.
Those who attend will be given tickets and a tasting kit, which can be used to vote for the winner.

Movie night at Judge Armstrong Library
Judge George W. Armstrong Library will host movie night from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
The showing will feature “Nebraska,” starring Bruce Dern, Will Forte, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk.
Nebraska follows an aging father who makes a trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar prize.
Free popcorn and drinks will be provided.
Natchez-Adams County Humane Society Kitten Adoption Day
The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a kitten adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Stine and Natchez Mall.
The price of adopting an animal — $35 for two kittens and $25 for one kitten — includes spaying and neutering costs.
