NATCHEZ — A routine headlight check led to a Natchez man’s arrest last week after discovering five bricks of marijuana under the driver’s seat.

Tarvares Letcher, 34, 200 A Ford St., was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

A Natchez Police Department patrol officer stopped Letcher for driving without headlights on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive in the Wendy’s parking lot.

“While (Letcher) was speaking, the patrol officer noticed the smell of marijuana in the car,” NPD Commander Craig Godbold said.

The patrol officer called the K-9 unit to assist with the situation.

“The dog alerted to the presence of narcotics where they found five bricks of marijuana,” Godbold said.

The five bricks of marijuana weighed a total of 12 pounds, making this the biggest stop for the NPD in a while, Godbold said.
