PURVIS (AP) — Officials have released the names of the victims of a Friday night shooting that included a Natchez native in a Lamar County subdivision.

Deputies say 34-year-old Demetries Minor and 23-year-old Brandon Nicholson were both found dead as a result of gunshot wounds late Friday when authorities arrived at an apartment off Old Highway 11.

Minor was a part of the Natchez High School basketball team that lost to Biloxi in 2000 during the semifinals of South State.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said there was someone inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but she was asleep and unable to provide any information.

Rigel says authorities are still searching for another person they believe was also present at the time of the shooting.

Rigel says deputies are still piecing together what happened during the incident and have not yet established a motive.
