Happy holidays.
Are you looking for something for your children to do over Christmas break? Are your grandchildren going to be in town for the holidays? Look no more. Natchez Little Theatre has saved the day. We will be having a one-day “NLT Winter Youth Workshop” on Monday. The workshop will be for youth ages 6-16, and no previous theatre experience is necessary. The cost is $50 with a sibling discount of $10 per student.
Throughout the day, the students will be learning about acting, directing, make-up, creating sets, designing costumes and much more. The day will conclude with a short performance for all to enjoy. The cost of the performance for parents, friends and relatives to watch will be $3 and we will have popcorn and drinks for all. Think of it as Hee-Haw meets Sonny and Cher; Saturday Night Live meets The Carol Burnette Show; American Idol meets America’s Got Talent and all that in between. Think of the laughter, think of the smiles, think of a day free from your children while you pack away your Christmas decorations.
We would love to have your little angels for the day to share with them our passion for the stage. Plus, Natchez Little Theatre is Mississippi’s oldest community theatre and a charitable, non-profit organization. I have had the privilege of working with NLT’s Summer Youth Workshops since their inception, teaching acting, dance, directing and choreography. I directed two NLT Youth productions: “Carmen” and “Martha” and have choreographed numerous NLT musicals.
This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce a child to the art of theatre and to prepare them for NLT’s Summer Youth Workshop which will run from June 23 through July 23, and is an extensive performing arts workshop. NLT’s Youth Workshops are 11 years old, and we have worked with over 600 diverse youth introducing them to the lively art of theatre, music and dance. Children who participate in NLT’s Youth Workshops participate in NLT’s programs throughout the year and show improved learning skills, self-confidence and will have an opportunity to meet many new and exciting friends.
The NLT Winter Youth Workshop will start at 9 a.m. Monday. We will break for lunch at noon (with a meal provided), get back to work at 12:30 p.m. and rehearse until 5 p.m. Students can run home, shower, rest and rejuvenate before being back at Natchez Little Theatre at 7 p.m. Curtain for the participant’s performance will be at 7:30 p.m.
