When Adams County Christian School junior Jordan Petty isn’t holding down the paint on the basketball court, she is more than likely dominating some homework or test in school.
Petty, one of ACCS’ top players, also holds a 3.9 GPA and is a major factor for the Rebels on the floor.
“Jordan Petty is one of the finest young ladies that I’ve had the privilege of working with,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “She’s just a great person. She is one of our team captains this year, and she can lead both verbally and physically. She is a team player, all about the team, and very unselfish.”
Petty said she grew up watching basketball and knew one day that she would be on the court herself. However, she also knew that to do that, she would first have to have everything squared away in school.
“I put more into school because I have to have grades before I can play sports,” she said. “I’ve cancelled plans or not gone to a game that night to be able to do my schoolwork. I do anything I can to keep my grades up, and that is really what has gotten me to where I am.”
Petty said her favorite class is math, which is something that has just clicked for her.
“I understand it,” she said. “It just clicked for me when I was younger and it has always been one of my favorites.”
Petty said even though she still has her senior year ahead of her, she has begun thinking of college and potentially doing something with math involved.
“There are different colleges, and I haven’t completely set on anything yet,” she said. “Hopefully something that I will have to do a lot of math with because it just clicks.”
Another thing clicking for Petty is basketball, where she is a constant threat for double digit points and rebounds each game.
“She is going to give you 100 percent every time she goes out there,” Hall said. “She isn’t going to take a play off. I believe it is her drive, her inner strength and her commitment to excellence across the board.”
Petty has her sights set high for the rest of her high school career, especially in basketball this season.
“I really want to make it back to state for basketball,” she said. “That is one of my really big goals this year, we just have to take it game by game to make it.”
Petty also hopes to excel in the classroom, like always.
“I just want to keep my grades up. I’m really looking to get a scholarship for my grades.”
As for Hall, she is thrilled that she will have another year with Petty on the team.
“It is awesome,” she said.
