NATCHEZ — Exterior repairs to the Natchez City Council Chambers are slated to begin as soon as possible.
The Natchez Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to repair the council chamber before the holiday season.
Mayor Butch Brown said the board is looking to repair the windows, and doors within the facility because of water getting inside the walls of the building, while on the outside the water is contributing to the stucco peeling off.
“These are emergency repairs,” Brown said. “The windows have actually fallen, and if you walk around you can see them.”
The emergency repairs, Brown said, because of bad weather that could possibly damage the inside.
R.L. Blanton Construction will make repairs to the chambers, which will cost between $90,000 and $100,000.
“We want to start as soon as we can,” Brown said. “We got to weather proof this building before the holidays so that we can keep the water out.”
