VIDALIA — Vidalia police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint Tuesday.
Vidalia Police Department Lt. Frankie Carroll said an employee of the AT&T store on Carter Street was throwing something away in the dumpster behind the store at approximately 9:38 a.m. when an unknown man approached her.
“He apparently told her to give him all her stuff, and she just thought he was messing around and said, ‘Quit playing,’” Carroll said. “When she finally turned around all the way, she saw the man was holding a gun.”
Carroll said the employee tried to give the suspect her purse, but he demanded a bank bag she was holding in her other hand.
The bag, Carroll said, contained receipts for the store and an undetermined amount of cash.
“She was getting ready to go through all that stuff and see how much was in there when he took it, so we’re still trying to figure all that out at this point,” Carroll said. “The suspect took off running down Cross Street, and that’s the last time she saw him.”
Carroll said officers responded shortly after and began questioning witnesses in the area. One witness said they saw the suspect get into a green Jeep Cherokee that drove toward Ferriday.
The suspect is described as an 18- to 20-year-old, 150-pound black male. Police say the suspect has no facial hair and has short to medium hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 318-336-5254. All calls can remain confidential.
