Ferriday prepares for tough road test

A 49-0 win last Friday didn’t please Ferriday head coach Cleothis Cummings, and the Trojans went right back to work this week.
“Just looking at what we did against Vidalia, we had a lot of mistakes over the course of the game,” Cummings said. “Those were some of the things we slowed down and talked about in practice, so they can understand what exactly their jobs are.”
Next in line for the Trojans (2-1) is a trip to Monroe to take on Richwood (1-3).
“They’re a pretty good team,” Cummings said. “They’ve got a strong skill group, and it is hard to slow them down. They have a quarterback who is more of a runner, and he poses a threat.”
Richwood is coming off a 33-19 loss to Wossman, and the Rams defense has surrendered 67 points in the last two games. Cummings hopes this is something that will be an advantage to his team.
“Offensively, we’re just going to try and control the clock,” he said. “Once we get the ball, we’ve got to be sure to keep it out of their hands as long as we can and slow the game down a bit.”
A victory in this game would put Ferriday at as many wins as they had last year, but Cummings doesn’t want to get ahead of himself as far as declaring the Trojans as the team to beat.
“We’re just trying to take it one week at a time,” Cummings said. “We’re trying to keep the kids focused on getting better day by day.”
Ferriday and Richwood are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Monroe.
