VIDALIA — Additional police officers will be patrolling throughout schools in Vidalia Thursday in response to unconfirmed rumors of trouble at a local school on the anniversary of Sept. 11.
Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said rumors began circulating Wednesday that an incident would occur at one of Vidalia’s four schools but stressed that those comments were only rumors.
“The important thing to remember here is that none of the rumors have been confirmed or have been traced back to any credible information,” Lewis said. “The reason we’re going to have the extra patrol is just because of the rumors going around and to ensure students and parents that their safety is our top priority.”
Lewis said officers will be patrolling inside and outside the schools throughout the day and encouraged anyone to call the police department to report suspicious activity.
Concordia Parish Superintendent Paul Nelson said he was not aware of any such threats or incidents.
