Get ready to roll at annual poker run
Published 12:01 am Monday, September 8, 2014
We are ready to roll for the fourth annual Krewe of Fat Mama’s Poker run.
Again this year, the Krewe of Fat Mama’s and Adams County Search and Rescue have teamed up to host the 2014 Natchez Poker Run. All money raised benefits Adams County Search and Rescue (ACSAR). ACSAR is a 100 percent volunteer group that depends on fundraisers to bring a valuable service to you, our citizens. Bring your bike, buggy or classic vehicle (anything street legal) to Fat Mama’s Tamales (FMT) Saturday. Your participation will help ACSAR protect you.
Adams County Search and Rescue is a volunteer organization dedicated to the mission of search and rescue, Mississippi River safety, first aid/CPR, evidence recovery and other tasks assisting the population of Adams County.
ACSAR has coordinated many missions with our neighboring counties and parishes.
The fourth annual schedule will start with registration from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Fat Mama’s Tamales, 303 S. Canal St. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. The first card of your poker hand will be dealt at FMT. All street-legal vehicles will leave for John’s Place in Washington, where the second card will be presented. Following this, we will return to the Natchez Grand Hotel for lunch. Lunch is your choice of a hamburger plate or jambalaya plate for $5 with a drink. About 1:30 p.m., we will leave for Roux 61 to obtain your third card in your poker hand, followed by a stop at the Under-the-Hill Saloon to get the fourth card. All vehicles will arrive back at Fat Mama’s to draw the fifth card at approximately 4 p.m.
The best five card stud poker hand wins $300 donated by Stuart Heflin and Russ Woods with State Farm Insurance. The second best hand gets $200 supplied by Radzewicz Oil. The third place winner gets a cool $100 thanks to the Natchez Bus Terminal. Many door prizes will be given away as well. Such categories such as “most patriotic bike (or vehicle)” and “best bling” will be awarded from a panel of ACSAR judges. A 50/50 pot is a $5 chance to win half of all the money in the pot. You don’t want to miss this.
Entry fees for the poker run are $25 per bike, $15 per additional riders. All street-legal vehicles will be charged an entry fee of $25 as well. Additional poker hands may be purchased for $15 each. Lunch is planned at the Natchez Grand Hotel for $5 a plate which includes a soft drink. T-shirts for this year’s event are $15 each and are limited in number, so be sure to get yours early.
Come enjoy the fun and fellowship. Come support and meet the volunteers you pray you will never need. Be sure to talk to the ACSAR members and see if you have what it takes to be one. Adams County Search and Rescue exists to help protect Adams County and its neighbors.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Stan Owens Jr. is the vice president of the Krewe of Fat Mama’s.
