ferriday — The Bayou Crocodile National Wildlife Refuge will host a free event called “Let’s Go Back to the Bayou!” from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
“We’re trying to promote outdoor activities we have at the refuge other than hunting and fishing,” said event organizer Deisha Norwood.
Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a multitude of things such as a guided canoe tour, a guided “hay ride” though the forest, sunrise photography, nature walks and kids’ activities.
“We will also have a pond discovery,” Norwood said. “We won’t really talk about fishing, it’ll be about other things in the pond like bugs, turtles and things like that.”
Norwood said the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will have a few booths covering fishing and other things.
There will be free food at the event served midmorning, and Norwood stressed that if interested, people need to call ahead to reserve a spot.
“We have a limited number of canoes and a limited number of people that can get on the shuttle for the hay ride,” she said.
To reserve a spot, call 601-442-6696.
