Q: What do you think is currently working best in the County Court system?
Walt Brown: See below
Lamar Bullen: The County Court only deals with civil cases under a Jurisdictional amount of $200,000.00 or less. The Court is a tool for small business owners to get their case before a Judge in an expedited manner.
Patricia Dunmore: County Court is a court of concurrent jurisdiction with the Circuit and Chancery Court, hearing some, if not all, in both of those courts. A person seeking to file a civil law suit will probably get a faster trial date in county court than in circuit court.
Brandi Lewis: The County Court is an integral part of our justice system. County Court is currently handling civil matters, where the damages sought do not exceed $200,000.00, as well as criminal matters. The County Court assists in the handling of small claims that cannot be filed in the Justice Court. In addition, County Court aids the Circuit Court, and its’ docket, by hearing cases where the two Courts have concurrent jurisdiction.
Scott Pintard: The County Court System is currently working efficient based upon the case load. Cases are promptly moved forward with little to no delay. If elected, like all areas I will be responsible for, I will conduct a thorough review and determine what changes, if any, are necessary or may improve the system.
Scott Slover: I believe having a dedicated judge who works tirelessly for his department and treats all cases with the utmost seriousness is the most positive aspect of our current County Court system. The judge needs to be replaced by a candidate who will have that same attitude. I am that candidate.
