It’s time to “Get on Up” and get your cooking team together for the United Way 10th annual Jambalaya Cook-Off.

We want you to be part of the fun and festivities taking place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Natchez Convention Center.

The competition is always heated and the public will benefit with a complete scrumptious Jambalaya lunch being offered for a donation of only $7.

If you are not sure which recipe suits your taste buds, for an additional donation of $1 per sample, you can purchase a tasting cup from each serving booth before making your final choice.

Roscoe and Kari Blaney from 95 Country will serve as host and hostess with some good toe tapping music.

You can choose your favorite movie character and dress 1950s style or dress up in full James Brown style.

Since part of the movie “Get on Up” was filmed in Natchez, it’s a good way for the community to get on up and support a great fundraiser for a good cause and help the United Way kick off their 2014 campaign.

United Way agencies will be on hand to tell their stories, regarding the valuable service and support their efforts provide to local residents.

In that regard, the United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou has always focused on critical issues, such as education, employment and housing.

It takes the whole community working together to reach our goals in areas, which includes helping children and youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families and promoting independence and economic self sufficiency.

This event is guaranteed to sell out, so go early Thursday to the Natchez Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m.

You’ll be treating your taste buds to some great jambalaya while helping support those who need it.
