The Titan Tire facility — which opened as Armstrong Tire in the 1930s — is owned by the City of Natchez, but Titan still holds the lease on the building. “(Titan) maintains that site as well, but like Johns Manville they have not really had any indication of moving that site,” Russ said. Natchez Mayor Butch Brown said Titan still houses some equipment in the facility. “I hear every now and then a rumor that somebody is in town to pick up a piece of equipment or check on it, but I don’t ever get any confirmation on it,” he said. “We are not actively marketing it through the city, because warehouses these days are single level buildings, and this warehouse is three to four stories tall, he said. “It is not considered a modern building, and while it may be adaptable to some other use, that hasn’t shown up yet.” While the Johns Manville and Titan Tire sites are on the Natchez Inc. radar, they aren’t high priorities at this point, Russ said. “Our main focus is on the industrial port area,” he said. “It remains at the end of the day the place un the U.S. Gulf Coast region that is a juncture of river, rail and roads, and that is what separates us from every other place in the country. Our focus has been on the properties that we currently own, and that is where our main focus and marketing will remain.”
