NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman who believed her boyfriend was cheating allegedly shot him Sunday, sending the man to the hospital.
Natchez police officers responded to Natchez Community Hospital at 3:30 p.m. Sunday after Carlos Smith, 25, was dropped off by an acquaintance with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder, NPD Detective Jerry Ford said.
Smith told officers he was walking on Watts Avenue Sunday afternoon when he was confronted by a female, who shot him once in the shoulder.
After talking to witnesses at the scene, Ford said the officers were able to determine the alleged shooter was Nakeysha Y. Watkins, 28, who was Smith’s girlfriend.
The officers went to Watkins’ house at 419-B Watts Ave., and questioned her about the incident.
“She told the officers that they started arguing about an affair he was allegedly having,” Ford said. “They had apparently gotten into a heated debate, and that’s what triggered her shooting him.”
Ford said the officers recovered a 9 mm pistol at Watkins’ house that appeared to match Smith’s gunshot wound.
Smith was transported from Community to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and was in stable condition as of Monday, Ford said.
Watkins was arrested and charged with aggravated assault domestic violence.
No bond had been set as of Monday evening.
