NATCHEZ — Adams County residents have an opportunity Tuesday to meet with one of their congressmen.
The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a legislative breakfast featuring U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper, R-Mississippi.
Harper represents Mississippi’s third congressional district, which includes Natchez, Meridian, Starkville, Brookhaven and portions of Jackson.
Chamber President Debbie Hudson said the breakfast was a way to combine a chance for locals to meet with Harper, while also being the setting for the congressman to receive a national award.
Members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance Tuesday to present Harper with a service award, and Hudson said Natchez was chosen as the location for the ceremony.
“They really could have done this in any other place, but they approached us a while ago about doing it right here in Natchez,” Hudson said. “I think that speaks volumes to our area.”
Hudson said the congressman would be available to meet constituents at the beginning of the breakfast before the award presentation.
Harper will also speak during the breakfast about current legislation and other topics of local interest.
Hudson said hearing from elected officials is always beneficial for local residents.
“Gregg is someone who is no stranger to our area, so it’s always great when he has a chance to stop by and hear from everyone,” Hudson said. “We’re always going to do our best to give venues for local residents to hear from their congressman.”
The breakfast will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Natchez Grand Hotel. Admission is $10 at the door.
