JACKSON — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels soccer team got a small taste of their season Wednesday when they played their season opener against Hartfield Academy.
The Lady Rebels fell 2-0 to the Lady Hawks, but the game showed head coach Jimmy Allgood where his players stood in the opening stages of the season.
“We learned that this 85-degree weather has not been kind to us, because our ladies aren’t in soccer shape, and the better trapping, passing and shooting skills of Hartfield allowed them to swoop down and take a victory from us,” Allgood said. “I was expecting my girls to come out ready and play aggressively, but I think we have to turn up the intensity level.”
The Lady Hawks scored in the 28th minute to take a 1-0 lead by halftime, and they scored again in the 65th minute to go up 2-0 .
Allgood said goalie Anna Kate Scott fended off nearly 40 shots on goal and allowed just two to slip past and get to the back of the net.
As the Lady Rebels return back to Natchez, Allgood said they must put the loss behind them and focus on the ACCS Girls’ Soccer Shootout hosted at ACCS this weekend that will feature Hartfield and several Mississippi schools.
ACCS plays Hartfield in a rematch at 10 a.m. Saturday at ACCS.
