Jury requests district attorney settle argument

VIDALIA — Concordia Parish Police Jury members agreed Monday to allow the district attorney to settle an argument that has resulted in heated discussions at two recent meetings.
The argument is a continuation from the jury’s July 14 meeting and seeks to address who has the right to put items on or take them off of the official agenda.
The motion was brought forward by Juror Willie Dunbar near the end of the meeting, after he brought forward several property maintenance issues.
Dunbar said he wants to know the policy or the state law on how items are moved on or off the agenda.
The dispute was originally between Dunbar and board president Melvin Ferrington, but also involved the responsibility of secretary treasurer Kevin Friloux to maintain the agenda.
This followed an earlier discussion when Dunbar made a motion to make corrections to the previous meeting’s agenda to clarify that he was wronged.
This motion was struck down by six of the eight jurors present.
“I’m through with it, I was through with it last meeting. I apologized for my temper last time, and I won’t talk about it this time,” Ferrington said.
In other news from the meeting:
• Jurors authorized the secretary treasurer to open a bank account for the local emergency preparedness committee.
Ferrington said this account would be used to save grants for emergencies, such as floods and tornados, but also to help with buying equipment for needed maintenance.
• The jury accepted a parish audit showing that Concordia made more money than the previous year with a net income of $1,300,000 compared to last year and 2012, which was $908,000.
Ferrington said he had not yet reviewed the audit report in its entirety to see what caused the increase.
