NATCHEZ — Any junior golfers in the Natchez area still wanting to participate in the 2014 Norman Puckett Junior Championship at Duncan Park Monday must do so before Sunday’s deadline.
As of Friday, no Natchez kids had signed up for the event, according to Mississippi Golf Association executive director Margo Coleman.
“We haven’t had a whole lot of Natchez kids in the past,” Coleman said. “As I’m looking at our signup sheet now, we don’t have anyone from Natchez. We’d like for more junior golfers in the area to come out and participate.”
Those wanting to participate don’t have don’t have to be a Mississippi Junior Golf Association member or qualify for the event. Any amateur golfers that are 18 or younger are able to enter the tournament.
Duncan Park golf course director Greg Brooking said he expects a turnout of 30 to 40 junior golfers, and he expects to see the cream of the crop.
“Norman Puckett brings in the best junior golfers in the state of Mississippi,” Brooking said. “We’re fortunate enough to host such an event.”
The tournament will be broken up into several groups for boys and girls.
Three of the boys’ groups will be the 16- to 18-year-old division, 14- and 15-year-old division and 12- and 13-year-old division, which will all play 18 holes.
