Book sale highlights new community room

The Friends of the Armstrong Library are happy to announce that their twice-monthly used book sale will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The sales have been on hold while the room was being renovated and renamed in honor of our long-time librarian, Susan Cassagne.
The Susan Cassagne Community room has newly painted bookshelves, new floor tiles and, best of all, a state of the art AV system.
Many thanks to Candy Strader, Judy Wiggins, Patrick Landers and Linda Ogden, who were the “worker-bees” behind the renovation. If your group needs a meeting site for up to 40 people, please keep in mind that this room is available when not being used for library events.
Contact our librarian, Pam Plummer, for information.
Books have been re-shelved and many new ones have been added.
The shelving is much more “user friendly,” allowing visitors to easily find books that fit their interests.
The proceeds from the book sales enable the Friends of the Library to support many activities of the library.
Additional funds are raised via sales of the library cookbook “In the Company of Friends,” the Christmas Tour of Homes, which is on Dec. 8) and the membership drive.
The membership drive begins in September and the highlight of the annual Membership meeting will be the dedication of the Susan Cassagne Community Room. Susan served as the librarian for many years before becoming the executive director of the Mississippi Library Commission.
A few of the activities supported by the Friends include purchases of genealogy software, materials for the Teen Room and Children’s Room, eBooks, DVD’s and a security system for the library. We donate books to local schools and nursing homes and honor members and family with memorial books.
Please drop by and visit our new room and check out the great buys for summer reads at our book sales. The Saturday sales are hosted on the third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. The Tuesday sales are hosted on the first Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers staff the room and are anxious to help you find “that perfect book.” Prices range from .50 cents to $1, so truly “the price is right.”
Maria Bowser is the President of Friends of the Library Board.
