FERRIDAY — Ferriday Police arrested two more suspects Monday in connection to a possible gang-related shooting last week.
FPD officers arrested eight people last week who were allegedly involved in the shooting. Some of those arrested are part of a newly formed gang called the “Swim Team,” Interim Police Chief Derrick Freeman said.
Ja’Darius Green, 19, 27667 Louisiana 15, Ferriday, was arrested Monday and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
A Natchez resident, Deondra Anderson, 21, 42 Melrose Ave., was arrested Monday and booked in on the same street gang activity charges.
Freeman said he believes Green was one of several people who shot at three Sicily Island residents last week.
The gang members called the Sicily Island residents, Freeman said, telling them to come down to Ferriday to fight and shots were fired after a fight ensued in the Delaware Avenue area.
Five other Ferriday residents were also arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder in connection to the shooting.
Two Ferriday residents and an Alexandria resident were arrested last week and booked on criminal street gang activity charges.
Freeman said investigators are still working to identify which suspects are members of the gang and which were simply involved in the shooting.
“We’re still doing our research to find out more about this gang and who exactly is involved,” Freeman said. “Right now, anyone we suspect as being a part of this gang will get that street gang charge.”
Freeman said investigators are still searching for more suspects they believe were involved in the shooting.
“This investigation will continue until everyone that had a part in this incident is in jail,” Freeman said. “We’re out in full patrol and want to make sure this activity doesn’t continue in Ferriday.”
