FERRIDAY — Services for Vernon Morris White Sr., 74, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, June 26, 2014, in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ferriday Church of God with the Rev. Joseph Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Harrisonburg Cemetery in Harrisonburg under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Mr. White was born June 21, 1940, in Pineville, the son of Vernon Edward White Sr. and Lillian Wiley White.
He was a very active member in Concordia Parish.
He served as the Director of Homeland Security for more than 31 years. He also flew for Civil Air Patrol, was president of the chamber of commerce president and was a school board member.
He flew many rescue missions. He built his first airplane and flew if off U.S. 84.
He was always willing to jump into action in any emergency situation.
He loved his family and his community.
Other achievements include that he was a very committed member of the 32nd Degree Mason for Lodge 390 for more than 50 years of service. This is just a very small list of his accomplishments.
He loved hunting, fishing and life to the fullest. If you meet him once you never forgot him.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Belle Skipper White; his parents; one daughter, Glenda Nell White; and one son-in-law, Buddy James Holoman.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon Morris White Jr. and wife, Needra, of Ferriday, and Vernon Edward White of Waterproof; two daughters, Janice Lynn Crochet and husband, Terry, of Ferriday, and Gail Dean Holoman of Vidalia; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Lee Crochet, Melissa Crochet, Tonya Lynn Stamey and husband, Rick, Benjamin Shawn Crochet and wife, Crystal, Edwin Matthew Jackson Jr., Merry Elizabeth Crochet, Glenn Adam Sandell, Jasmine Marie White, Lillian Amber White, Nikki Nicole Holoman and Crystal Nicole Rowell; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan Lee Crochet, Kaylin White, Shawn Hunter White, Nichole Rowell, Olivia Butler, Tristan Hunter Crochet, Kaylab, Landen, Pheobe Stamey and Aubree Jade Crochet; two sisters, Rena Mae White Brock of Texas, and Annette White Young of Natchez; and one niece, Brenda Joyce Luneau of Ferriday.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Morris White Jr., Vernon Edward White, Terry Lee Crochet, Christopher Lee Crochet, Vernon Morris White III “Bubba” and Edwin Matthew Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Shawn Crochet, Rick Foster, Raymond Skipper, Randy Maxwell, Rick Stamey, Leo Young and Nolan Cothren.
