NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Timothy Geiger McGivaren, 66, of Natchez, who died Friday, June 20, 2014, at University Medical Center in Jackson, were Wednesday at Weymouth Hall.
Services were under the direction of Sebrell Funeral Home.
Mr. McGivaren was born June 9, 1948, in Natchez, the son of John M. McGivaren Sr. and Pearl Geiger McGivaren.
He graduated from Natchez High School and Louisiana Tech University with a master’s degree in music.
He taught school in Lake Charles, then joined Holiday on Ice as a musician.
After returning to Natchez he was a self-employed musician. In Natchez, if he had not played at your reception, you were not officially married. Playing also on the Mississippi and Delta Queens and Confederate Pageant.
He was a bartender at Scrooge’s for many years.
He was in many productions at the Natchez Little Theater and portrayed Mark Twain in the Opera Festival’s “Big River.”
He loved reading, yard work and his dogs, Jeopardy and Bow Ties.
Most of all he cherished his family and many friends.
Mr. McGivaren was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Patrick Matthew McGivaren; and one brother, John Michael McGivaren.
Survivors include his wife Charlene Floyd McGivaren; one son, John Christopher McGivaren and wife, Dana, of Gonzales; one brother, Dr. Patrick McGivaren of Rome, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Connie Floyd of Brandon; five grandchildren, Peyton and wife, Skylar, Rachel, Landry, Andrew and Cole; and a number of nephews, nieces and friends.
