Area parents have a variety of options when it comes to deciding what their children will be up to this summer.

Several summer camps offered in the Miss-Lou give children a chance to get outdoors, fine-tune artistic skills, learn a new sport and plenty more.

Kids College

Co-Lin is hosting its summer college in June and July and offering a variety of classes, including Spanish, arts and crafts, math and others.

Kids College will feature the following programs:

• “Hola Amigos Spanish for Kids I” offers an introduction for younger students to the language and culture in fun and interactive ways. The class is for first- and second-grade students, and will be from June 9 to 12.

• “Lights! Camera! Action! Movie making for kids” offers an introduction into filmmaking terminology, script writing, editing, shooting and putting finished films online. The class is for third- through fifth-grade students, and will be from June 9 to 12.

• “Hola Amigos Spanish for Kids II” is for third- through fifth-grade students, and will be from June 16 to 19.

• “Arts & Crafts I” will allow children to create projects designed to enhance their imagination and creativity. The class is for first- and second-grade students, and is from June 16-19.

• “Arts & Crafts II” is for third- through fifth-grade students and is from July 7 to 10.

• “ENTER Computers” offers students the chance to learn the inner workings of computers. The class is for first- and second-grade students, and is from July 7 through 10.

• “Fun with Microsoft Office” is an interactive class that shows students how to develop slide shows, create charts and more. The class is for third- through fifth-grade students and is from July 14 to 17.

• “Zumbatomic/Cheer” is a fast-forward fusion of the Zumba program’s moves with workouts designed to let kids max out on fun and fitness. The class is for students in sixth-grade or older and will be from July 14 to 17.

The classes are all from 9 a.m. to noon in the Redd-Watkins Career-Technical Center.

All classes have a $45 fee, which covers all supplies.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis because of the limited class sizes. Students must have completed the grade for which they re registering.

Art and music camps

• Children’s Prep Music Studios will host its summer music camp for children ages 3 through 10 from June 16-20 on the second floor of the Natchez Senior Center.

Classes will be from 2:15 to 3 p.m. for ages 6 to 10; from 3:15 to 4 p.m. for ages 4 to 5; and from 4:15 to 5 p.m. for 3-year-olds.

Cost for the camp is $75, which includes registration. Limited enrollment is available and early registration is recommended.

• Natchez Fine Framing and Art Gallery will host summer art classes from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays beginning June 3.

Space is limited and sign-ups are now being accepted.

• The Natchez Art Association will host a summer art camp for children in grades kindergarten and up at The Frye Building on North Pearl Street.

The camp includes painting, drawing, crafts and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The first session is from June 23 to 26; the second session is from July 7 to 10; and the third session from July 21 to 24.

All supplies are included, and students are asked to bring a bag lunch.

• Sun Moon & Stars offers two summer art camps for children ages 5 to 12 from June 9 to 13 and July 14 to 18.

Classes will be from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 5 to 6; from noon to 1 p.m. for children ages 7 to 8; and from 2 to 4 p.m. for children ages 9 to 12.

Classes are $100 a week for children ages 5 to 8 and $125 for children ages 9 to 12. Call 601-431-4811 or 601-304-1603 for more information or to sign up.

• Natchez Clay will host a variety of camps and workshops throughout the summer.

A kids clay camp for children ages 7 to 12 will be from July 14 to 18.

Two sessions — from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. — are available.

The cost of the camp is $150.

A clay club, which includes pottery wheel lessons, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. starting June 3. The classes are on Tuesdays for five weeks and are for children ages 11 and up.

The cost of the class is $150 for five weeks.

Saturday clay days will be hosted at 3:30 p.m. every Saturday during the summer beginning June 7.

No registration is required, and the class is $20 for each participant.

Historic Jefferson College camps

Historic Jefferson College is offering four camps throughout the summer that will teach children new skills and give them insight into life during the Civil War and pioneer times and teach them a few outdoor survival skills.

The college’s Naturalist Camp focuses on hands-on projects and observation in the field. Campers ages 10 through 12 will examine mammals, reptiles, amphibians, bugs and plants.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon June 10 to 12.

The college’s Frontier Survival Camp for children ages 10 to 14 will give campers hands-on skills needed by frontiersmen and women to survive the wilds of Mississippi in the 18th and 19th centuries, including how to fish, shoot a muzzle-loader, make moccasins and much more.

The camp is from 1 to 4 p.m. June 24 to 26.

At Civil War Adventure camp, children ages 8 to 12 will be given a unique look at the Civil War from a soldier’s point of view. Campers will learn how to drill and parade, see a black powder rifle demonstration and learn about the gear necessary for survival while in the military.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon July 9 to 11.

The college’s Junior Naturalist Camp, children ages 7 to 9 will use observation and fun, hands-on crafts to learn about the area’s natural wood.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon from July 15 to 18.

Discovery Week camp

The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians will host Discovery Week camp for children ages 7 to 10, from 9 a.m. to noon June 16 to 20.

Little Discovery Week camp for children ages 5 to 6 will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 23 to 27.

Both camps offer nature walks, pottery lessons and Native American games and crafts. The camp for the older children also offers flint knapping.

Space is limited for both camps. Discovery Week costs $40, and Little Discovery Week costs $20. The fees cover the cost of a T-shirt and supplies.

Everyday Adventures

Everyday Adventures will host a children’s kayak and adventure day from 9 a.m. until noon June 14 and 21. The children will go to St. Catherine Creek Wildlife Refuge and learn about basic kayak skills, water safety, birds and local natural habitats.

Space is limited, and the camp costs $35, which includes lunch.

Theater camp

Natchez Little Theatre is offering a summer youth workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday from June 3 to 26.

Children will participate in a comprehensive performing arts workshop each day for four hours.

All workshop participants will perform in the musical “Bugsy Malone” from July 31 to Aug. 3.

Handwriting camp

Key Rehab will host handwriting summer camps, which are taught by board certified occupational therapists utilizing the award winning “Handwriting without tears” curriculum to teach handwriting skills to children who have just completed kindergarten through fifth grade.

Children in kindergarten through second grade can attend sessions from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and those in grades 3 through 5 can attend sessions from 1 to 3 p.m.

Dates for the camps include, June 9 to 12; June 16 to 19; June 23 to 26; June 30 to July 3; July 7 to 10; July 14 to 17; July 21 to 24.

Youth bowling camp

Rivergate Bowl will host a youth bowling camp for children ages 5 to 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 through 13.

The camp offers lane instruction, lunch served each day, fun games, prizes, a bowling pin decorating contest and a T-shirt for each participant.

The camp only has 60 available spaces, and parents are asked to call to reserve a spot.

Cost for the camp is $60 with a $20 non-refundable deposit.

Public youth swim lessons

The City of Natchez is offering summer swim lessons at the Natchez Senior Citizen’s Multipurpose Center pool for children ages 5 to 13.

Classes are from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 9 to 12 and from noon to 12:45 a.m. June 16 to 19.

Tennis camp

The Duncan Park Tennis Center will offer tennis camp this summer for six weeks June 2 through 20.

Classes are Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday for children in grades three and under from 8 to 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and children in grades fourth through sixth from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to noon. Those classes are $75 per child.

Classes are also offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for grades 7 and above for $85.

The price for the six-week program includes instruction, T-shirt and court fees. All classes will skip the week of July 4.

Library programs

• The George W. Armstrong Library in Natchez will offer a number of camps through its summer library program.

The theme for the children’s program is “Fizz, Boom, Read,” and the teen’s theme is “Spark a Reaction.”

The children’s program will kick off at 10 a.m. June 6 with a concert by Brian and Terri Kinder, who will present an interactive concert called “Traveling On.”

Registration beings Tuesday and will be ongoing until the program begins June 10.

The program will be offered from June 9 to July 3.

The 3- to 5-year-olds will meet from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays; the first through third graders will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays; and the fourth through sixth graders will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.

• The Concordia Parish Library also offers summer reading programs every week June 2 to July 18.

Preschool programs begin at 9:30 a.m., elementary at 10:15 a.m. and teens at 11:15 a.m. On Mondays, the program will be at the Bookmobile at the Concordia Bank in Monterey. On Tuesdays, the program will be at the Vidalia Library. On Thursdays, the program will be at the Ferriday Library. On Fridays, the program will be at the Clayton Library.

Guests at the programs throughout the summer include music by The Kinders, storytelling by Sylvia Davis, a music and variety show by Harvey Rabbit and Friends, calliope puppets by Karen Konnerth, theatre art by Doug Berky and a showcase of reptiles by Terry “Snakeman” Vandeventer.

Adams County Farm Camp

Adams County Farm Camp is for third to sixth graders, and is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 1 and 2.

The camp offers a hands-on educational experience geared toward how agriculture contributes to daily lives.

The camp is limited to the first 30 children to sign up and pay their $15 registration fee. The fees will help cover cost associated with transportation, lunch both days, a camp T-shirt and some items to bring home with them.
