DETROIT — Memorial services for Otis Charles Blanton, 71, of Detroit, who died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence, will be at a later date.
Services were under the direction of Swanson Funeral Home.
Mr. Blanton was born Sept. 20, 1943, in Natchez, the son of Otis “Bus” Blanton Sr. and Julia Elizabeth Anderson.
On March 25, 1967, he was baptized by Hugh P. Henneberry of Holy Family Catholic Church.
He was educated at Saint Francis Catholic School. Shortly after his graduation from Saint Francis High School on May 24, 1962, he moved to Detroit and worked as a spot welder on the assembly line at Chrysler UAW for 38 years.
Upon his yearly visits to Natchez to visit family, he attended church at Holy Family. He attended St. Cecilia in Detroit.
It was very important for him to enjoy life and after retirement in 2006, he continued to travel especially to Chicago and Canada.
Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank Blanton and Andrew Allen Blanton; and one sister, Rose Lee Blanton.
Survivors include his daughters, LaKeitha Luster and Kimberly Blanton and companion, Torrance; one brother, William Anderson; three grandchildren, Jacaris, Carl Jr. and Carlee; nephews, Frank Blanton Jr., Ronnie Blanton and Xavier; nieces, Daisy Blanton and companion, Orlando, Janie Blanton and companion, Stephen, Tracy Blanton, Sandi Blanton Roshell and husband, Ivan, Comika Anderson and Vicki Anderson; two god-sons, Justin and Kevin Luster; two special cousins, Shelia Peters and Roy Blanton; and a number of other relatives and friends.
