HOLYOKE, Mass. — Services for Christopher Eugene “Supermarky” Maher, 55, of Los Angeles, who died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2014, at St. Jerome’s Church Thursday, May 30, 2014, with the Rev. Charles Maher officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Farrel’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Maher was born Nov. 22, 1958, in Holyoke, the son of Richard J. Maher and Mary T. Maher.

He attended schools on the east coast. He graduated from Williston-Northampton School in Easthampton, Mass., in 1976.

A brilliant math student, he outpaced Williston math offerings by the end of his junior year. During his senior year of high school, he also attended Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.

He graduated from Yale University in New Haven in 1980. He then moved to California where he earned his master’s degree in music composition from Mills College in Oakland in 1982.

A lifelong learner, he had many talents in languages, music and the arts. After his post graduate experiences, he worked for a hotel as a translator in San Francisco for a number of years.

He relocated to Los Angeles and made his home there for over 20 years. He has been active in the arts.

Mr. Maher was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one brother, Richard F. Maher and wife, Lisa, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Maureen Cotter and husband, Mike, of Holyoke, and Eileen Maher and husband, Mark LaFrancis, of Natchez; three nephews, Christopher Cotter, Dylan Maher and Mark LaFrancis; five nieces, Laura O’Brien, Elizabeth Barsalou, Carolyn Cotter, Grace Maher and Mary LaFrancis; two greatnieces, Abby and Caitlin O’Brien; two dear friends and caregivers, David Douglas and Stephen Rau, both of Los Angeles; and Nick Jordan.
