Prepare your items for letter carriers
Published 12:07 am Thursday, May 8, 2014
Once again on Saturday, your U.S. Mail Carrier, when he/she delivers your mail, will pick up your gifts of non-perishable food items that you leave by your mailbox.
These will be redistributed to local agencies who will use them for erring to those in need. All items will be taken to the main Post Office.
They will be reloaded to trucks and taken to the receiving agency. This itself is a big job. Those who are receiving items should be at the Post Office by 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Stewpot will have the help of Natchez High School students to do this.
The United Postal Workers do this annually nationwide; all items collected remain here for local use. Our carriers always responded, receiving national awards for what they have done.
Each year the amount of food collected exceeds that of the previous year. The Postal Workers urge you to put just a little more in your gift package this year so that together we can achieve this goal.
What items of non-perishable food or short term life foods are needed by these agencies? Any canned food, especially vegetables, fruits, soup, meats, etc. The ultimate use of these much-needed supplies is to help those who may not have food, water, money, warm clothes, a place to live, family, etc.
Please help so many by putting non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday.
